Microwave Bacon is the best thing to ever happen to a dorm room: it turns out crisp, flavorful, and perfect.

Bacon is the king of meats, and if you think that you can’t make any in your dorm because you only have a microwave, then you are mistaken! This recipe is super quick and easy, and you end up with a plate of bacony magic.

Get out your bacon patterned onesie, your plush bacon pillow, your bacon socks, and that bacon emoji doll your roommate gave you, and let’s cook up some delicious strips of amazingness. You may have never considered making bacon in the microwave before, but trust us, it turns out perfect every time.

You can make bacon for pretty much any occasion, from breakfast study sessions to when you explain to your roommate that you’re the one who stole their bacon onesie. You only need a few minutes, some paper towels and a plate, and you’re good to go!
HOW TO MAKE MICROWAVE BACON

  • Layer two pieces of paper towel on a plate.
  • Top with bacon (not touching).
  • Cover with two more pieces of paper towels.
  • Microwave for 3-4 minutes (3 for 1250 watt microwave, 4 for smaller ones, you will have to test).

VARIATIONS ON MICROWAVE BACON

Things to do with bacon: It may be easier to make a list of things that you can’t do with bacon since that list would be much shorter.

Some favorites of ours are jalapeño poppers, bacon omelets and an easy classic, the bacon sandwich.

For jalapeno poppers that you can make in the microwave, cut a pepper in half, fill it with cream cheese and sprinkle crushed up bacon over the top. Pop it in the microwave and voila!

Bacon omelets are as simple as crushing up bacon strips into the eggs and a bacon sandwich is any kind of your favorite spread with bacon strips on bread.

PLATE IT UP

Let’s be honest, bacon is a thing of beauty. You can drape it over the side of a plate of eggs, or crumble it over everything from chowder to salad. A good tip for your bacon to keep grease from getting everywhere is to take a piece of paper towel and set it onto a plate. Once the bacon stops cooking, set the hot pieces onto the plate so that the paper towels absorb a lot of the grease.

SAVE SOME FOR LATER

You can keep the bacon in the fridge for up to 3 days before it becomes questionable. Don’t chance it! Throw it out! That said, if you keep the bacon in a sealable bag, you can reheat it super easily for moments when you need emergency bacon. Don’t laugh, you know emergency bacon’s a thing.

COST FACTOR

$: There is only one ingredient, and it is the king of ingredients. That’s right, it’s bacon. Beautiful, wonderful bacon. This means that you don’t have to spend a ton of money on this recipe.

MICROWAVE TABLE

  • 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to cook your bacon for 3:36.
  • 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook the bacon for 5 minutes.
