VARIATIONS ON MICROWAVE STRAWBERRY JAM
Pretty much everything we’re going to suggest adding in is highly citric. Why is that? Because citric acid activates the flavors in the Jam and gives it that delicious kick we all love.
- Lemon rind
- Orange peel
- Lime juice
- Sliced blueberries
- Chopped hot peppers
WHAT TO SERVE WITH MICROWAVE STRAWBERRY JAM
Jam is amazing on toast, as everyone knows, but Jam also moonlights as a dessert topping. You can add Jam to cake, tarts, donuts, and even vanilla ice cream to give boring pastries a bit of a punch. Seriously, try it out the next time you’re baking and let us know how it goes.
SAVE SOME FOR LATER
Jam famously stays good for a super long time as long as you keep it sealed up. Jam stays good at room temperature for about 30 days, but you can always keep it in the fridge as well. Most jam containers tell you to keep the open product refrigerated, but that isn’t necessary as long as you seal it up under sanitary conditions.
COST FACTOR
$: If you’ve got sugar, strawberries, and lemon juice you’re in business. This is a stupidly straightforward recipe that won’t sot you very much at all, in fact, it may even end up costing less money to make your own than to buy it (based on bulk and how fancy your ingredients are. Please don’t make us do the math.)
MICROWAVE TABLE
- 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to microwave the jam for 6:00, then again for another 6:00 minutes.
- 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook the jam for 8:35 minutes, stir and add another 8:35 minutes.
