MICROWAVE STEAMED ASPARAGUS
So the first thing that happens when we all become adults is that we realize that eating veggies isn’t the chore we thought it was as children. Vegetables are actually awesome, and they’re necessary if you don’t want scurvy (don’t look up scurvy unless you’ve got a strong stomach. Just eat your veggies instead.) One of the best sources of iron and antioxidants in the vegetable world is asparagus, which is handy since it is so delicious and simple to cook.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a big pot and a stovetop, you can steam asparagus in your microwave and you don’t even need to dirty a bunch of dishes to do it. All you need is some damp paper towel and you’re good to go.
HOW TO MAKE MICROWAVE STEAMED ASPARAGUS

DELICIOUS MEALS TO EAT WITH YOUR ASPARAGUS:
WHAT TO SERVE WITH MICROWAVE STEAMED ASPARAGUS
Asparagus is like the ultimate back-up dancer: pair it with any rock star main course and it just makes everything better. You can pair asparagus up with everything from meatloaf to a Kraft Mac and Cheese and it makes for a delicious side dish.
SAVE SOME FOR LATER
Put any leftover asparagus in a sealable bag and put it in the fridge for later. You will definitely want to eat the asparagus fairly quickly after you make it, but it won’t go bad for up to a week.
COST FACTOR
$: This recipe calls for 2 ingredients and one of them is salt. There really isn’t a cheaper recipe out there, unless you choose to forgo the salt for some reason, but why do that to yourself?
MICROWAVE TABLE
- 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to cook for 3:00, then check it, and add another minute if needed.
- 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook the asparagus for about 4:30, then add another minute as needed.
