FAQs (Because You Know You Want to Ask)
Q: Will this work with sweet potato tots? A: Absolutely—just add an extra 30 seconds to the cycle. Sweet tots tend to need more time to crisp.
Q: My tots came out soggy. Help! A: Check these: Single layer? No overlap. Spray on oil? Don’t skip it. Stand time done? Let residual heat finish the job.
Q: Can I prep ahead? A: Kinda. Lay tots in your grill pan, cover, and store in fridge up to 12 hours. Microwaving still takes 5 minutes.
Q: Is it safe to microwave this long? A: Yes—resist the urge to blowtorch. If sparks occur, stop immediately (usually means metal touch or grill pan issue).
COST FACTOR
$: You only need 3 ingredients, and they are perfectly priced for a starving college student. That is to say that they cost almost nothing. If you have leftover ingredients you can use them for future recipes, just make sure to store them properly.
MICROWAVE TABLE
- 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to cook for 6:00-7:12, then check it, and add another minute if needed.
- 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook the donuts for about 8:30-10:20, then add another minute as needed.

Looks like a great idea, but I’ve never used one of these microwave sandwich makers. I’ve seen demos on YouTube, but they all show putting the lid on and securing it when toasting a sandwich. Is that how you do these tater tots, or do you just use the bottom part of the sandwich maker, as shown in your directions and the photos here?
Use any microwaveable tray and please let us know how they turn out!
