Spaghetti Carbonara is an absolute Italian classic, and we’ve made our very own, microwave version. We’ve taken a few liberties, switched up a few things, and have come up with what we think may end up being a brand new favorite of yours.

MICROWAVE BACON RAMEN CARBONARA

Carbonara has been a favorite dish in Italy since the 1940s, mostly because of how delicious and filling it is.

We’ve been craving a big bowl of delicious pasta lately, and came up with a tasty, bacon-filled version of this old favorite that doesn’t need a stovetop or a pasta maker to cook. Our Bacon Ramen Carbonara is absolutely delicious, and it’s one of the most straightforward recipes you’ll ever make.

HOW TO MAKE MICROWAVE BACON RAMEN CARBONARA

  1. Add ramen and water to ramen cooker.
  2. Cook for 3 minutes.
  3. Pour excess pasta water in a cereal bowl.
  4. Add half of the parmesan cheese to the water and stir.
  5. Add egg yolk and stir quickly (don’t let the egg sit in the water or it will cook in the hot water).
  6. Toss the ramen into the egg mixture.
  7. Add the bacon to the ramen along with the rest of the parmesan and stir.
  8. Microwave for 20 seconds to heat bacon.

VARIATIONS ON MICROWAVE BACON RAMEN CARBONARA

You can customize your Microwave Bacon Ramen Carbonara however you would like, but here are some of our own personal favorite ways to spice up your pasta.

  • Pecorino cheese
  • Finely chopped onions
  • Spinach
  • Mozzarella cheese

SAVE SOME FOR LATER

Ramen keeps well in the fridge, and you can get it out and heat it up whenever you’re in need of a delicious snack. Just make sure you keep your leftovers in a sealable container and cook your leftovers in 30-second intervals to get it up to temperature to eat.

COST FACTOR

$: This recipe will cost you more than just a plain packet of ramen would (to be fair, pretty much anything is more expensive than a single packet of ramen) but the extra ingredients are 100% worth it. Treat yourself, you don’t get to be fancy super often.

MICROWAVE TABLE

  • 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to microwave the ramen for 3:35 minutes, then add heat in 20-second intervals.
  • 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook your ramen for about 5:10 minutes, then add heat in 20-second intervals.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 package ramen , (throw away packet)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup bacon crumbles
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese , plus more for garnish
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Add ramen and water to ramen cooker.
  • Cook for 3 minutes.
  • Drain leftover pasta water in a cereal bowl.
  • Add half of the parmesan cheese to the water and stir.
  • Add egg yolk and stir quickly (don't let the egg sit in the water or it will cook in the hot water).
  • Toss the ramen into the egg mixture.
  • Add the bacon to the ramen along with the rest of the parmesan and stir.
