Microwave Philly Cheesesteak Mac and Cheese is the combo of your dreams with homemade cheese sauce, frozen meatballs and veggies.
You don’t have to be in Philly to enjoy a cheesesteak themed bowl of Mac and cheese (but it doesn’t hurt)
MICROWAVE PHILLY CHEESESTEAK MAC AND CHEESE
Anyone can make plain old Mac and cheese but it takes a true artist to make something this delicious. The meatballs, onion and bell pepper are perfect mixed into cheesy, creamy noodles and it’s easy to make so when you get up for two seconds and your S.O eats the whole bowl you don’t have to yell at them (at least not very much.)
How to Make Microwave Philly Mac and Cheese
- Mix pasta, water and salt in a deep cereal bowl.
- Microwave for 2 minutes.
- Mix well and microwave for 2 more minutes (check if it boils – if it boils over stop microwave immediately to stir).
- Check to make sure there is enough water, add 1/4 cup water if it is dry.
- Mix again and microwave another 2 minutes.
- Check for doneness here, microwave one more time if needed.
- Add in the milk, cheddar cheese, meatballs, onion bell pepper mixture, and black pepper, stirring well.
- Microwave for 1 minute until melted.
- If the cheese doesn’t melt all the way, you can microwave for 45 seconds then stir again.
- Top with American cheese and stir before serving.
LEFTOVERS
It would be a crime (figuratively) to let any of your Philly Mac and Cheese go to waste. Put the leftovers in an airtight container and keep in the fridge. The Mac and cheese will stay good for up to 3 days and after that point it’s time to tearfully say goodbye and let it go.
COST
$$: Milk, meatballs, and veggies shouldn’t be too expensive, and you can find them at almost every grocery store. Grabbing a bottle of Worcestershire will up the price a bit initially, but it keeps for a really long time. Mac and cheese ranges anywhere from $0.99 a box to $6 for a bulk package so you can stock up on it for late night Philly cheesesteak snacks.
MICROWAVE TABLE
- 900 watts: Change the cook time to 2:40 minutes, stir and then cook for another 2:40, but make sure you keep an eye on it.
- 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook your noodles for about 3:26, stir and then another 3:26.

This looks super delicious! I love mac n cheese but I seldom make it because it doesn’t feel like a dish on its own – and I don’t know what to eat with it. Now you solved it for me 😉
We didn’t suffer through 4 years of college (or 5, who’s counting) without solving a problem or two. 😀
What a delicious meal this was! Easily, a new family favorite recipe! Yum!
Glad you liked!
I love it when I find family friendly recipes that are simple and have easy to find ingredients! Thank you for creating this!
You’re welcome – the best part is even the family member that burns water can figure this one out.
This is such a smart idea and it looks yummy! Bookmarking this for my daughter, who is a Freshman at ASU, thank you!
Just let her know you can’t trade Philly cheesesteak Mac for parking passes. 😉 At least that we know of.
Such a great idea for a College student in a dorm! Loving this idea!
Gone are the days of existing on Taco Bell and vending machines. Co-Eds will still eat them but they don’t HAVE to, they got options now.
