WHAT TO SERVE WITH MICROWAVE BROWN RICE

Rice is awesome in everything from Cheesy Broccoli Rice Casserole to a Bean and Cheese Burrito Bowl, and using Brown Rice is a slightly healthier choice. Brown Rice goes really well with steamed veggies or in a chicken soup on days when you’re feeling a bit under the weather.

SAVE SOME FOR LATER
You can keep rice in a sealable container int he fridge for up to a week. It reheats really well, and if you make enough in advance you can skip a few steps the next time you want a delicious stir fry or need some rice for that soup you’ve been craving.

COST FACTOR
$$: You can buy Brown Rice in fairly large packages for pretty inexpensive. The trick is to get something that isn’t a name brand, that way you can buy in bulk without completely emptying your bank account. Just store whatever you don’t end up using somewhere dry and cool and you’ve got yourself dinner for the next bit.

MICROWAVE TABLE

  • 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to microwave the rice for 12 minutes on full power, then for 25 on half.
  • 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Cook the Brown Rice for about 17 minutes, then on half power for another 30.
