Red velvet cake sounds so decadent, doesn’t it? Well, forget about the decadent part, you can totally make it in the microwave in that bowl you’ve only ever used for bran cereal and trapping spiders so you can move them outside (because you’re a hero like that, and never let anyone tell you otherwise)

HOW TO MAKE MICROWAVE RED VELVET CAKE

  • Using a fork mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in cereal bowl.
  • Add in the oil, sour cream, egg, vanilla and food coloring, mix until combined.
  • Microwave for 1 minute.

SAVE SOME FOR LATER

Cover the bowl with some plastic wrap and stick it in the fridge. It will last for about a week, as long as you keep it sealed and don’t leave it open for mold to grow on.

COST FACTOR

$$: You need a lot of ingredients, which can add up, but each individual part can be found for fairly cheap at your local grocery store.

MICROWAVE TABLE

  • 1,000 watts or higher: Higher wattage, lower cook time. Our microwave is about 1,250 watts, but if you have one with about 1,000 watts you will want to cook the cake for about 1:05.
  • 700 watts: Microwaves under about 900 don’t heat things evenly or consistently, so don’t go anywhere while you’re cooking. Start by microwaving for about 1:43.
