Do you like cookies? Of course you do. Are you tired of eating prepackaged cookies from the store and crave something warm, gooey and fresh? You can totally make cookies in the microwave, and, spoiler, they are fantastic.

Why You’ll Love It

  1. Single-serve treat—no roommate-level dish pile-up.
  2. Ready faster than your study-break timer.
  3. Costs under $1 per cookie (bulk-buy those chips!).
  4. Totally dorm-legal: just a microwave and a cereal bowl.

HOW TO MAKE A MICROWAVE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE

Step-by-Step (60 Seconds Flat)
  1. Melt Butter – 15 sec in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Whisk Sugars, Vanilla, Salt – until glossy.
  3. Add Yolky Goodness – stir well.
  4. Fold in Flour – batter will look thick.
  5. Chocolate Time 🍫– chips in, plus a few on top.
  6. Microwave – 45–55 sec* on HIGH.
Power varies; look for dry edges and a soft center.
  7. 🍪Set & Devour🍪 – stand 60 sec so molten chips don’t scorch your tongue.

Pro Tips & Troubleshooting

Dry cookie? You over-zapped it. Start with 40 sec next time.

No chips? Swirl in a spoonful of Nutella or crushed Oreos.

Vegan version: swap butter for coconut oil, use 1 Tbsp oat milk + ½ Tbsp ground flax instead of yolk.

Variations to Try

PB & Chocolate: sub 1 Tbsp butter with peanut butter.

S’mores: sprinkle crushed graham crackers + mini marshmallows on top after cooking and nuke 5 sec more.

Double Dark: replace 1 Tbsp flour with cocoa powder.

SAVE SOME FOR LATER
If you just can’t quite finish it I’m going to guess you made at least 3 batches (so did I when I was testing the recipe, because it is AMAZING).

A.) you need to believe in yourself more and B.) you can save it for later.

Wrap with plastic wrap and put it your fridge. Your cookie will stay good at room temperature for about 2 hours before getting stale.

COST FACTOR
$$: You’re gonna need all purpose flour, butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, kosher salt, eggs, and chocolate chips.

If you’re no stranger to baking, you may already have most of these ingredients already hanging around. If you don’t, you will have to spend a little bit up front, but these ingredients will last you a while, especially if you keep the mice and your room mate away from them.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch Kosher Salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Start by melting your butter in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave.
  • Add sugars, vanilla and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Separate your egg and add the yolk only to your cup. Stir to combine.
  • Measure a slightly less than full, 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour. Add flour to the bowl, then stir again.
  • Add the chocolate chips, and give a final stir. Now your mixture will look like cookie dough. Add a few chocolate chips to the top of the cookie dough.
  • Cook in microwave 40-60 seconds.
